Disney is suing to keep the Avengers assembled
Plus: Apple and Tesla suppliers have halted production & Google slashes its cut
Hello there,
Disney (DIS)-owned Marvel is suing its comics creators to keep control of classic characters.
Why this matters: They filed lawsuits against Stan Lee’s brother, Lawrence Lieber, Steve Ditko’s relatives, and a host of others declaring that Disney has sole ownership of comics like The Avengers and Iron Man - including the characters and stories that have formed the basis for Disney’s money making Marvel Cinematic Universe. The suit follows Lieber and the others’ sending termination notices to reclaim parts of the rights on many Marvel characters in order to share in publishers’ profits. (The Verge)
Apple and Tesla suppliers have halted production
Several Apple (AAPL) and Tesla (TSLA) suppliers have suspended production due to energy consumption policies.
Why this matters: Tight coal supplies in China have triggered a contraction in the industry putting supply chains at risk in this peak season. The suspension will likely halt production of electronic goods and leave a backlog in their inventory. Most of their China plants were not affected but the Chinese factories themselves had to comply with the local government’s electricity limiting policy. (Yahoo Finance)
Google slashes its cut
Google (GOOGL) has announced that they will take a smaller cut when customers buy software from other vendors.
Why this matters: In a bid to provide its partners with the most competitive incentives, Google Cloud Platform slashed its percentage revenue share from 20% to 3%. There are also plans to change their marketplace fee structure. Google has already cut their service fee charge on developers by half on the first $1 million they earn in revenue in a year.
