Netflix launched a new site for its Top 10 shows
Plus: Activision Blizzard is on blast again & Nvidia’s Arm acquisition faces a UK probe
Hello there,
Netflix (NFLX) launched a new website that will share data around its globally most-watched Top 10 shows.
Why this matters: The company previously measured viewership by how many people watched at least two minutes of a particular show or movie, a metric that did not reflect how many people actually watched the whole thing. Netflix decided to shed more light on its top shows with the new weekly Top 10 list which will be updated every Tuesday with its top films and series in various categories. (The Verge)
Activision Blizzard is on blast again
Activision Blizzard (ATVI) workers staged a walkout calling for the resignation of CEO, Bobby Kotick.
Why this matters: The company is in the news again for the wrong reasons. Activision Blizzard workers staged a virtual and in-person walkout of work, calling for the resignation of CEO, Bobby Kotick for allegedly minimising the severity of sexual misconducts happening at the company to employees and board of directors. The company has been dragged severally by its employees for its toxic work culture, sexual harassment, and discrimination. (Polygon)
Nvidia’s Arm acquisition faces a UK probe
Nvidia (NVDA)’s $40 billion acquisition of British chip designer, Arm will undergo more scrutiny by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority.
Why this matters: The UK government is concerned about the company’s proposed acquisition of the chip design company and how it would affect its rivals. Since Nvidia actively competes with many of Arm’s customers, regulators are worried that Nvidia could possibly prevent Arm from designing more powerful chips for its competitors. This move could also affect customers, if Nvidia decides to use Arm to give itself special treatment, the chips that are available might cost more than they already do. (The Verge)
