Say Hello to Amazon TV
Plus: Tech giants are developing their own chips & Gamestop earnings are coming
Hello there,
You’ll soon be able to watch Amazon Prime shows on an Amazon (AMZN) TV.
Why this matters: According to reports, the company has been working on its branded TVs for some time now. It’s set to be released in October and will be integrated with Alexa. It's easy to see why the prospect of watching Amazon TV shows via an Amazon Prime subscription on an Amazon device itself is attractive to the company- there’s nothing Amazon loves more than that sweet, sweet vertical integration. Tech giants are developing their own chips
Apple (AAPL), Tesla (TSLA), and Facebook (FB) have decided to develop their own chips
Why this matters: The tech giants want custom-made chips that fit their applications and the generic ones just won’t cut it. Making their own chips gives them more control over how their software and hardware are integrated and also helps to differentiate them from their competitors. The ongoing global chip shortage is another reason why big tech firms are thinking twice about where they get their chips from. Tesla even announced that it is building a “Dojo” chip to train artificial intelligence networks in data centers. (CNBC)
Gamestop earnings are coming
Gamestop (GME) is expected to report its second-quarter fiscal earnings this week.
Why this matters: The world’s largest multichannel video game retailer is expected to report its fiscal second-quarter earnings. The company’s shares have surged over 975% so far this year but it closed 5.04% lower last week. The company has been undertaking efforts to fast-track growth, mainly in the digital arena. Gamestop has soared and outperformed its industry to date, so it will be interesting to see its earnings report this quarter. (Yahoo Finance)
